Unexplained power cut hits thousands of homes

THOUSANDS of homes have been affected by a power cut this morning mainly in the S63 postcode area.

Northern Powergrid said at around 10.10am today (Thursday, October 2) 4,100 customers were left without power.

Jason Hardman, Nothern Powergrid duty manager, said around 3,000 customers were restored by 10.36am.

Speaking to the Advertiser at around 10.50am he said: “We currently have around 1,100 customers without supply, which we hope to be restored by noon today.

“We don’t know what’s caused this issue.”

Mr Hardman said quite a large area was affected, which was mainly the S63 area, including Church Street, Albert Street, Houghton Road and Windsor Street.

He added: “We managed to switch supplies via telecontrol, and we’ve also sent engineers to investigate.”
