Unattended candle leads to house fire

A COUPLE were taken to hospital after a fire broke out in their home caused by a candle that had been left unattended.

The candle set fire to a curtain at the property on South Crescent, East Dene at 5.15pm on Saturday (December 3).

A crew from Rotherham station attended and the homeowners were taken to hospital for a check-up.

A blaze broke out at a farm on Roman Street, Thurnscoe at 8.40pm last night.

A crew from Dearne station was at the scene for an hour and a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said it was due to an electrical fault.

Arsonists struck in East Dene last night, targetting an empty house on Selwyn Street at around 10pm.

Two crews attended from Rotherham station and one from Dearne. They were at the scene for an hour putting out a fire that had been started in a storage room next to the kitchen.
