TWO men have been charged with the murder of pensioner Mushin Ahmed (81), while charges against a third have been dropped.

Jones appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on September 25 — alongside Hunt — for a preliminary hearing.

Hunt appeared at Sheffield Crown Court via videolink from Doncaster prison today alongside Kieran Rice (21).

Rice was previously charged with assaulting Mr Ahmed, but the charges against him have now been withdrawn.

Rice still faces one charge of cocaine possession and his lawyer, Mr Dominic Hughes, is due to make a bail application at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.

Det Insp Victoria Short, investigating the case, said: “Mr Ahmed was seriously assaulted in the early hours of August 10 in an area close to Fitzwilliam Road.

“On August 21, police confirmed that Mr Ahmed had sadly died of his injuries in hospital.

“The family of Mr Ahmed continue to ask for privacy from the media and would like to pass on their gratitude for the support they have received from the local community and beyond.”

A two-week trial date for Jones and Hunt has been set for February 8.

Another 24-year-old man, arrested on August 19 in connection with Mr Ahmed's death, has been released from police bail.
