Two charged in connection with Wombwell murder

POLICE have charged a man and a woman with murdering Wombwell man John Gogarty.

Helen Nichols (38) and Ian Birley (43), both of Mont Walk in Wombwell, were due to appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court this morning, after being charged yesterday (Sunday).

Nichols and Birtley were arrested at a Wombwell house last Tuesday morning.

A 48-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on July 21 remains on police bail.

Mr Gogarty was found dead at a house on Marsh Street, Wombwell on Friday, July 17.
