Tributes pour in to ‘Mr Tickhill’

TOWN councillors have paid tribute to a long-serving mayor they described as a “true gentleman” and dubbed Mr Tickhill.

Mayor of Tickhill Cllr Raymond Lewis Hill, known as Ray, died on Friday aged 67 after a short illness.

He was elected to the council in 2003 and became mayor the following year, holding the title for all but one year since.

Tickhill Town Council members noted he had never missed a full council meeting.

They said in a statement: “As both Mayor and councillor, he has fulfilled his duties with integrity and honesty, and has had the ability to listen to others and get on with the job in hand.

“He he has been the public face of Tickhill Town Council, opening and leading the major events in the Tickhill calendar.

“He has instigated improvements and projects throughout the town and to many residents regarded as Mr Tickhill.

“His services to the community were recognised last year when he received the Community Award for outstanding services to the town.

“A pillar of our community and a role model for those wishing to take on public duties, he will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

“He was one of Tickhill’s true gentlemen.”

The Yorkshire flag was flying at half-mast in Tickhill in Cllr Hill’s memory this week.
