Tribute to family-run haulage company’s Eileen
Eileen Dungworth (nee Green) died at the age of 80 in Dewsbury District Hospital on October 2 following a blood infection.
She was was the last remaining member of the original Green siblings, who ran the Leonard Green Haulage company.

Hide AdThe firm was set up by Eileen’s father, Leonard Green senior in the late 1920s, and she was the eldest of the six siblings born in 1933.
The Green family lived in Rawmarsh and Eileen began working for her father when she left school, and went on to become company director with her brothers Colin and Leonard junior after her father’s sudden death.
The original site for the haulage firm was Wannop Street Garage premises in Parkgate, but it later moved to Barbers Avenue, Rawmarsh.
The firm had a distinctive fleet of vans and delivered steel nationwide, until it went into liquidation in 1977 and closed in the early 80s.

Hide AdFollowing the demise of the family business, Eileen worked full-time in a number of different administration positions.
Despite being retired from her last company, TNT Express in Rotherham, at 65 she continued to work in various temping positions until into her late 60s as she enjoyed work and meeting people.
Eileen leaves four children — Chris Dungworth (49), Alison Mitchell (48), Catherine Dungworth (47), and Joanne McMillian (43).
Chris said his mother took great pride in her five grandchildren

Hide AdHe added: “In her later life she showed so much strength and determination even though she was now paralysed, had dysphasia, and was living in a nursing home.
“She still had a life to live, watching horse racing on television and going out each weekend with her family.
“She lived a very full life, loved helping people, was devoted to her family and will leave a big hole in all our lives.”
