Treeton burglars sentenced

THREE teenagers have been sentenced for burglaries committed in Rotherham and Sheffield.

Alex Whittingham (19) of Langsett Road in Hillsborough, Connor Brailsford (18) of Pitsmoor Road in Sheffield and a 17-year-old boy from Handsworth all appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.

All three pleaded guilty to four burglaries in Sheffield and Treeton in March.

Whittingham was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, while Brailsford received two years and six months.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given a two-year youth rehabilitation order and a three-month electronic curfew.

Acting Det Sgt Janine Broughton said: “Burglary is a very intrusive crime that can leave the victim extremely distressed and frightened of being in their own home, whether anything is stolen or not.

“I am pleased with the result and hope it gives the young men time to think about the consequences of their actions.

“We will always endeavour to bring those that choose to partake in criminal activity before the courts.”
