A TRAVEL agency has closed after ten years of helping Rotherham folk book their away days and holidays.

Dawson Sanderson’s six Rotherham staff have been given less than three weeks to find a new job after learning last Friday that their Frederick Street branch was being closed.

Customers were reassured that their bookings would be honoured by the firm’s Doncaster office after the Rotherham branch closes next Friday.

Jan Fawcett, general manager of the Newcastle-based company, said that Dawson Sanderson had decided not to renew its lease in Rotherham when it came up for renewal after ten years.

“There has been a period of poor trading in Rotherham for a number of years,” she said.

“We have 21 branches and this is the only one that is affected in this case.

“We have tried to see if there was a better site available in Rotherham at a rent we could afford but that has not been the case.

“Unfortunately, because most of our branches are in the north east and the only other one in Yorkshire, at Doncaster, is fully staffed, we have had to make the staff redundant.

“Obviously, it’s very sad to see them all go because they are a very good team and we have forwarded their details onto our competitors in the area to help them find new jobs.”
