Woman injured in runaway wheel incident

A WOMAN was hospitalised after a wheel came off her car in Rotherham town centre on Saturday.

Police and ambulance crews responded to the incident on Wharncliffe Street, in which the rear near side wheel came off a red Nissan Terrano four-wheel-drive.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics attended at around 10.20am, taking the driver to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with "a leg injury".

A police spokeswoman later confirmed that no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the incident.

She added that the driver's hospital visit was just a "precautionary measure".
