Three need hospital checks after M1 sludge spill

THE M1 in Rotherham was being reopened this afternoon after a waste spillage which closed the motorway between junction 32 and 33 earlier today.

Three people were checked at the scene by ambulance crews before going to hospital as a precaution. They were the lorry driver, who had come into extensive contact with the waste and two other people who had trodden in it.

The waste was a sludge-like by-product comprising mostly oil, solvent, resin and water. Emergency services have cleared the scene and are satisfied it is safe to re=open the motorway.
