Price of bus day ticket slashed

BUS company First has slashed the price of a day ticket in Rotherham to only £3.90 in an effort to encourage more people to use buses.

The price of the Rotherham FirstDay ticket will be slashed by 70p as of this Sunday (22), offering customers better value for money with unlimited travel on buses travelling within the Rotherham district boundary, including Meadowhall.

A First spokesman insisted that customer numbers had already increased by more than 3,000-a-week — with improved reliability and increased customer satisfaction of 88 per cent — but expected the measure to boost numbers still further.

First recently introduced two new child tickets, priced at only £2-a-day and just £5-a-week, covering all First bus services across South Yorkshire.

Paul Flanagan, Business Manager for First in Rotherham, said: “We’ve demonstrated that where we reduce fares in a strong partnership environment we can attract customers to our bus services.

“I'm sure this latest value for money initiative will be welcomed by everyone in Rotherham and will encourage even more people to use the bus.

“We can now look forward to improving our service even further with a stable, extensive network and great value fares.”
