Parking chaos on a daily basis

AS a resident of Lathe Road for ten years I wish to reply to an undated anonymous letter sent by RMBC to residents regarding “inappropriate and inconsiderate parking on Lathe Road”.

The letter reminds us that parking without thought and due consideration for others causes great inconvenience and possible danger. However, although I have been greatly inconvenienced by residents leaving vehicles — including a very large van — on the road/footpath, this is not the only consideration which should be taken into account, particularly where I live at the junction of Lathe Road and Worrygoose Lane.

In addition to residents’ vehicles, because the owner of the shops on Worrygoose Lane will not allow the people running the businesses to park in front of the shops, they park at the bottom of Lathe Road from 9am to 5pm every day, adding to the chaos we find ourselves dealing with on a daily basis.

I have pointed this out to the planning department and police on numerous occasions, but it seems it is not of importance; similarly the difficulty experienced trying to cross Worrygoose Lane to get to the bus stop etc is apparently of no consequence. Therefore, as well as the residents of Lathe Road, the shopkeepers should also be given a lesson from the Highway Code on “inappropriate and inconsiderate parking”.

Perhaps serious thought should be given to the proposed development of 800 houses off Lathe Road and the impact that amount of additional traffic would have on this area.
