Parkgate shoppers warned of bus timetable shake-up

NEW timetables are being introduced for buses running around Parkgate on Fridays and Saturdays.

Stagecoach Yorkshire has brought in Friday-only services for the 22X and 221, allowing extra journey time for when traffic is at its heaviest.

The 22X and 221 will also no longer directly serve the shopping centre on journeys towards Rotherham, from 10am until 4pm on Saturdays.

Passengers travelling to Parkgate on Saturdays between 10am and 4pm will be able to alight at the Stagecoach depot on Dale Road and change to services 8, 8a, 9, 218 or 218a.

Stagecoach said the changes were being made to improve punctuality and cope with delays caused by traffic congestion around Parkgate Shopping.

Services have been rerouted to run via Greasbrough, straight through to College Road roundabout and into Forge Island Interchange.

The 221 Rotherham to Doncaster Interchange serves Rawmarsh, Swinton, Mexborough, Denaby, Conisbrough and Warmsworth.

Stagecoach’s 22X Rotherham to Barnsley Interchange service calls at Rawmarsh, Dearne Valley College, Manvers, Wath upon Dearne, Brampton and Wombwell.

Matt Davies, managing director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “Due to increased congestion around Parkgate Shopping, we are reluctantly making these changes to improve service punctuality for customers using these services.

“In the absence of stronger measures to improve congestion around this area, we have been forced to make the changes on a permanent basis.

“We are confident the introduction of these measures will improve service punctuality for the majority of passengers travelling longer distances to destinations on the routes, and are keen to see the positive effect these changes will have on journey times for passengers, particularly in the months leading up to the Christmas period.”
