New parking welcomed in Maltby

EXTRA parking has been provided as part of a project improving the appearance of a row of shops in Maltby.

It was funded from Rotherham Council’s Towns and Villages Fund, which will see 23 such schemes provided across the borough.

And Laburnum Parade’s new look marks the first improvement to be completed on the east of the M18.

Denise Gillott, owner of party supplies shop The Gift Box, said: “The parking scheme is a much-needed improvement, making life far easier for the shops’ staff and customers. I have had positive feedback from customers who comment how much better it is.”

Cllr Jenny Andrews, Hellaby and Maltby West ward member on RMBC, said: “I’m so pleased that after so many years of trying, the car park is finally here.

“The feedback we’ve had from local residents is amazing.

“There is now safe parking for well-used shops and it’s just made our community.”

Ward colleague Cllr Simon Ball added: “As well as car parking, we’ve added to the CCTV in the local area and we’re looking to install electric charging points too which fits in with our ward priorities in making sure we look after the environment.”

RMBC set aside £4 million for the fund from its 2021/22 budget, with all schemes expected to be completed by 2024.

Cllr Sarah Allen, deputy leader and cabinet member for neighbourhood working, said: “The fund allows us to invest in the heart of our communities.

“The projects chosen aim to develop a sense of place and identity, bring about environmental improvements and most importantly restore pride in our communities.”
