Ian Ashmore, Rotherham council's head of transportation infrastructure, apologised for any inconvenience caused during the "important" improvement works.

He added: "Because of the high traffic levels on this route, the majority of works will be undertaken during off peak times - with some night-time working also taking place."

During the works there will be occasional closures to traffic turning right at the junction, with diversions in place.

A council spokeswoman said further works to improve traffic signals at the juction of A631 Bawtry Road and Moorhead Way (Morrison's supermarket), will also be happening in the near future and are expected to be completed next spring.
