A CAMPAIGNER wants to see drastic changes made to a road causing grief to residents because of irresponsible driving.

Speeding motorists are destroying wildlife at Delves Lane, Wales, according to one resident who has started a petition for action.

Jennifer Osborne (34), who lives there, said: “My road is a death trap. Most of my neighbours refuse to walk their dogs down there now.

“It’s a nightmare. The road is getting worse much quicker than I anticipated.

“I don’t know when it will end, probably when a child gets killed.”

Jennifer, who has lived on Delves Lane for over 12 years, feels road safety improvements are “badly needed” and says the issue is affecting her mental health.

“I’ve had panic and anxiety attacks regularly whilst walking down the road with my dogs or horses,” she said.

“There’s no need to drive like an idiot down a road that’s a short road, leading to a dead end.

“I used to love living here and felt my dogs were quite safe off lead walking down, not now.

“It’s just very upsetting, it’s absolutely devastating. My animals are my family, like children are to other people’s families, and have gotten me through some very hard times in life.

“And for them to be killed by someone’s carelessness is soul destroying.”

Jennifer said lowering the speed limit, or placing speed cameras or speed bumps, would be viable options going forward.

Cllr Dominic Beck and Cllr Marnie Havard, Wales ward members on RMBC, said they supported Jennifer’s efforts.

“We’re aware of the petition and we are supportive of it,” they said in a statement.

“Delves Lane has seen an increase in traffic and pedestrian use in recent years and attention needs to be given to reducing speed limits and other possible measures to improve road safety.

“We have already submitted the road for consideration for those improvements.”

There are over 160 signatures so far, and you can sign the petition here.
