Touring caravan site scheme rejected

PLANS for a touring caravan site on green belt land have been rejected by Rotherham Borough Council.

David Hull wanted permission for an extra 12 plots at Forge Road, Wales, where there are five pitches already.

He wanted to build over a former fishing pond, which has been left to drain away over several years.

Planning documents in support said the demand was there, adding: “The caravan facility is heavily booked in the main season.

“The tourism offer is important to Rotherham and an expansion of the facility would bring benefits to the borough.”

Rotherham Borough Council said: “The site is within the green belt and the proposed change of use represents inappropriate development that would have a detrimental impact.

“No very special circumstances have been demonstrated to outweigh the harm caused by the inappropriate development.”

There were 23 letters against the plan and Wales Parish Council objected, citing concerns about traffic, litter and pollution.
