TNT, which has topped the global list for the past three years, has again been recognised as the leader in its sector for its efforts to stay "environmentally friendly" across the entire business.

This includes ensuring that 100 per cent of its electricity supply at the Rotherham site comes entirely from renewable sources.

In addition, TNT in the UK also operates the largest zero emission vehicle fleet of its kind, with 100 environmentally-friendly electric trucks whose batteries are charged using power from renewable sources.

Rod McGowan, general manager at TNT Rotherham, said: "It fills me with pride that TNT again attained the position of Supersector Leader.

“We regard this award as independent recognition of our fundamental belief that corporate responsible business is not a fad for prosperous times, but is here to last.

"Most important of all, it is the best possible appreciation for our employees who are putting their heart into our numerous initiatives and programmes to further reduce our carbon footprint."

This year, the company took significant steps to increase its transparency, cut its CO2 emissions and help combat hunger in developing nations as well as disaster-stricken areas around the globe.

It has pledged to meet self-imposed CO2 efficiency objectives as it strives to achieve a 45 per cent improvement on its carbon emission by the year 2020 compared to 2007 levels.
