Tata Steel facing fraud probe

TATA’S steel-making operation in Yorkshire is under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office, it has emerged.

The criminal inquiry relates to allegations staff falsified certificates about the quality of products being sold.

The firm referred itself following an internal audit and at least nine members of staff have been suspended, the Telegraph reported on Friday morning.

A formal sales process for the UK arm of Tata will begin on Monday, business secretary Sajid Javid said this week.
