Swinton set for world-beating bagel factory
SWINTON is set to be home to the largest bagel factory in Europe and one of the largest in the world after the New York Bakery Co announced major UK expansion plans.
The Maple Leaf Bakery on the Swinton Meadows Industrial Estate will benefit from a £11.5 million investment earmarked at increasing capacity at the state of the art bakery and securing jobs on the site.
Owners Maple Leaf Foods said that demand for the New York Bakery Co’s bagels had led to the extension plans.
Following the product’s relaunch earlier in the year, sales have been boosted by two-thirds.
