"Spade attack" victim "serious but stable"

A MAN allegedly attacked in a park with a spade is still in a serious condition in hospital.

A MAN seriously hurt in an alleged attack with a garden spade was still in a serious condition in hospital today.

Nicky Bowen (27) was initially taken to Rotherham General Hospital before being transferred to Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital following an incident in Rosehill Park last Saturday.

He suffered head injuries and was described as being in a "serious but stable" condition today.

Police were called to Rosehill Park at 7.30pm on Saturday evening after witnesses reported seeing a man being attacked with what appeared to be a spade.

The incident happened not far from the park's main entrance gate on Warren Vale Road.

A 24-year-old man from Barnsley has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. He appeared at Rotherham Magistrates' Court this morning and has been remanded in custody.

Police have also arrested a 27-year-old woman from Doncaster who is in custody assisting them with their enquiries.
