Solicitors protest over government plans

PROBATION staff and solicitors will join together in a protest outside Rotherham Magistrates’ Court at 1pm on Monday.

Members of probation union NAPO are in dispute over “dangerous” government plans to outsource 70 per cent of the service, while criminal defence solicitors have been fighting cuts in legal aid fees.

Both groups will also be supporting a May Day Justice Day march and rally in Sheffield on Saturday May 3.

The government say the reforms were necessary in each case.
