Shadow minister backs Rotherham's small businesses

A SHADOW minister is backing Rotherham's small businesses ahead of a national day celebrating their economic importance.

John Healey MP, Labour’s housing and planning chief, is supporting little firms in the run up to Small Business Saturday on December 5.

The day showcases the work of entrepreneurs and encourages people to visit their high street and “shop small”.

The Labour initiative brought contributed around £1 billion to the national economy in 2013 and 2014, a spokeswoman for Mr Healey’s office said.

Mr Healey added: “We should do all we can to thank our local small shops and independent businesses on Small Business Saturday.

“They make a vital contribution to our community, add to the character of our towns and provide local jobs.

“There are lots of great businesses in Rotherham and the Dearne and this campaign is a great way of supporting them, raising awareness and helping boost trade.”
