Second World War air aces remembered

ROTHERHAM will honour the heroes of the Battle of Britain this weekend.

On Sunday, the Rotherham Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association is organising a parade through the town centre to mark the 72nd anniversary of the air battle, ending with a special service in Rotherham Minster.

At 9.45am the war memorial in Rotherham’s Clifton Park will be the venue for a special service before the parade moves off at 10am for All Saints’ Square, where at 10.15am the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr David Pickering, will take the salute together with the Lord

Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Mr A Jackson, and the President of the Rotherham Royal Air Forces Association, Trevor Senior. 

The parade will be led by the Woodhouse Prize Brass Band and will include local veterans and members of the Rotherham Air Training Corps, the RAF Regiment Association, the Royal Signals Association, the Sheffield Parachute Regiment, and squadrons from the Rotherham, Doncaster and Dinnington Air Training Corps.

The route will continue to Rotherham Minster for the service at 10.30am, led by the Vicar of Rotherham, Canon David Bliss.
