Ryan's building a future on his past!

APPRENTICE bricklayer Ryan Robinson is finding the building site a home from home—as he helps build a new property on the site of his childhood house.

The 18-year-old is working on a Keepmoat Homes development on the spot in Thurnscoe where he lived until he was ten.

Ryan said: “It does seem a bit weird but in a strange way, I’m really looking forward to it.

“From what I’ve seen so far it is going to mean a massive change for the area and I’m really enjoying being part of it.

“I am also loving the work, despite the winter weather we’ve been having.”

About 875 new homes will be built there over the next 18 years. Ryan is one of six young bricklayers and joiners at the site.

Tamsin Hart, Homes and Communities Agency project manager, said: “It is great to see how our funding is making a difference to Ryan and his fellow trainees.

“Our investment of over £2.1 million is not only providing this opportunity to him and his colleagues but also providing 55 homes for local people, contributing to the transformation of Thurnscoe.”

Also involved are Barnsley Council, the Chevin Housing Group, Berneslai Homes, architects Watson Batty and the SLR environmental consultancy.

It has been backed by Thurnscoe Community and Housing Alliance and Transform South Yorkshire.
