Rudston School trustees announce closure

TRUSTEES at the town’s only independent school have taken the decision to close its doors for the final time this summer.

Chairman of trustees has revealed that Rudston Preparatory School will close on July 9, after the board explored “all possible avenues”.

Hazel Yarlett, chairman of trustees, explained: "This is a sad day for the school.

"We have had to accept that this has resulted in a drop in demand for the traditional education  offered by Rudston, and a reduction in our revenues to a point where we can no longer operate as a going concern.

"Sadly, therefore, the Trustees have had to take the difficult decision to call an end to the service we have provided to the town for 68 years.

"A parents' group has explored whether an alternative business plan with a focus on cost savings might work, but Trustees felt that this was only delaying the inevitable.”
