Composed by the great Tchaikovsky between 1875 and 1876, Swan Lake - arguably the most popular and well known ballet of all time - is crafted, from Russian folk tales and an ancient German legend, into four acts (by Begichev and Geltser).
First performed at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre in 1877 as The Lake of Swans, the ballet tells the story of Odette, a young princess who is turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer and can only be saved by her prince's everlasting love and eternal devotion overcoming the forces conspiring to deceive and separate them
