Rotherham remembers its war heroes: GALLERY

PROUD Rotherham folk turned out in force to remember the fallen at a series of events to mark the 90th anniversary at the end of World War One.

Hundreds stood for two minutes’ silence at All Saints Square in the town centre and at the war memorial in Clifton Park at 11am on Friday to mark Armistice Day, while schools, streets and workplaces across the borough fell silent in tribute to those who gave their lives in conflict.

And yesterday, Remembrance Day parades proved a fitting reminder of the sacrifice of servicemen and women over the years.

Rotherham’s parade was attended by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Shaun Wright—who was also at All Saints’ Square for the two minutes’ silence on Friday—and led by the South Yorkshire Police Band.

The parade from Effingham Square to Rotherham Minster was followed by the Service of Remembrance, before the parade continued to the Clifton Park war memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony and on to Rotherham Town Hall, where the Mayor and the

Deputy Lord Lieutenant took the salute.

In Mexborough, members of the Royal British Legion led a parade from Mexborough Police Station on Adwick Road to the town’s war memorial on Doncaster Road on Sunday for a minute’s silence at 11am before a special service.
