Rotherham parents jailed for child cruelty
A COUPLE have been jailed after a court heard how they had reguarly beat their children over a period of two years.
The mother and father from Rotherham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were sentenced today at Sheffield Crown Court for child cruelty after pleading guilty to using belts on their three children, leaving the eldest on one occasion with a broken ankle.
Judge Alan Goldsack QC said in court that the duo's actions had left the children with “severe emotional and psychological effects.”
The father will serve a total of 27 months behind bars and the mother 18 months.
Their children have been taken into care.
