Rotherham Netto jobs safe, say new bosses

THE new owners of a Rotherham supermarket have vowed to keep all staff on in the wake of a takeover.

The Netto store on Sycamore Road in Rotherham has been sold to the Haldane Retail Group and is set to be rebranded as a new discount store, UGO.

But Richard Collins, chief operating officer for the Haldane Retail Group, which owns UGO, said: “We're delighted to have retained all of the former Netto employees in Rotherham as well as the other 19 stores we have purchased and will be re-opening under the new UGO brand over the next few weeks.

“I’m extremely proud of the team’s commitment and hard work to ensure a smooth handover with minimum disruption to customers.

“They’re now looking forward to opening the doors and introducing Rotherham to the UK’s newest discount supermarket.”

Store manager Matthew Holmes said: “I can't wait to welcome all of our loyal shoppers and see some new faces when we open.

“The entire team is very excited about this new chapter in the store’s history.”

The Netto store will close at noon on Saturday for refurbishment and rebranding and re-open to shoppers on Monday at 8am.
