Rotherham man's disabled sex trip turned into a movie

A ROTHERHAM man’s controversial trip to a Spanish brothel with two other disabled men in search of their first sexual experiences has been turned into a feature film.

Hasta La Vista (Come As You Are) was released this week in French cinemas and tells the extraordinary story of Asta Anthony Philpot, who was born in Miami, but grew up in Rotherham, and his mission to help other disabled people enjoy sex.

Asta (30), who is affected with arthrogryposis, which impairs his movement—advocates the right to an active sex life for people with disabilities, even if this means paying for it.

He lost his virginity during a visit to a special Spanish brothel, which he discovered had wheelchair access.

He regarded the experience as so life-changing that he wanted to share it other people in a similar situation and, after advertising on the internet, he found two volunteers, one blind and another paralysed, to go on a trip to the brothel.

Their trip was the subject of a BBC documentary which opened debate about the opportunity to legalise prostitution in the UK as a means of giving sexual experiences for physically challenged people, who often lack enough social opportunities to build a loving relationship.

Now the story has been made into a film by a Belgian duo, writer  Mariano Vanhoof and director Geoffrey Enthoven.

Asta was executive producer on the movie and is also a diversity consultant.

He concluded: “I’m never unhappy about my situation. My ethos is ‘You were born with it, enjoy it and make the most of it.’

“I’m so happy to be alive every day.”
