Rotherham driver seriously hurt as car flips in M1 smash

A DRIVER suffered serious head injuries when his car overturned after it left the M1 and travelled up a banking.

The crash happened at 4.27pm yesterday on the northbound carriageway, around half a mile before the exit slip road at Junction 34 at Meadowhall.

The silver MG ZR car was believed to have been travelling in the centre lane, when the driver apparently lost control and left the nearside of the motorway.

The car travelled up a banking, then rolled over several times before coming to rest on the hard shoulder.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Kiveton Park, was trapped in the vehicle for some time, before being released by firefighters.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Northern General Hospital, where he is currently detained.
