Rotherham date for Calzaghe

ORGANISERS are promising to deliver a knockout night of action — and a big boost to a worthy local cause — when former world boxing champion Joe Calzaghe comes to Rotherham.

The undefeated former super middleweight and light heavyweight champ will be making a rare appearance at the Hellaby Hall Hotel on Friday, March 8.

Guests will be able to heart all about the stories, triumphs and pressures of his glittering career and get the chance to pose questions as well as going away with a picture of themselves with the great man himself.

And, say organisers Jimmy Wilson and Scott Brunt, they want to make the night a little different from the norm.

As well as making a £500 donation to a local charity chosen by the Advertiser, to be presented by Calzaghe himself, they want to attract a more varied clientele.

Jimmy said: "Joe doesn't do many shows like this these days so it is a good thing for Rotherham. We still want to attract the type of people who like these boxing nights, but we are trying to get women along as well. Business people will be there and we will have a formal dress code and no jeans and trainers."
