Rotherham all set for a soggy Christmas

CHRISTMAS shoppers are set to get soaked this weekend as storms lash the country until the big day.

Heavy rain swept Rotherham overnight and continued today, leaving large puddles and closing some roads, including Recreation Road in Wath, where the water was more than a foot deep.

Downpours are forecast for today and the next three days, with Christmas Day expected to be cloudy and the sun not due to break through until Boxing Day, before three more days of clouds and rain.

Thousands heading out to buy last-minute gifts can expect highs of between 9c and 11c, while the temperature is expected to drop to 7c on Christmas Day and a chilly 5c on Boxing Day.
