Revised plans for Rotherham Tesco superstore submitted

SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has resubmitted plans for its £40m new store in Drummond Street, Rotherham.

Alterations include the new road junction with Kenneth Street, following pleas from firms around  Effingham Road.

Other changes have been made to the south-west front to emphasise links with the town’s main shopping area.

The shared surface on Drummond Street—for both pedestrians and vehicles—has been enhanced with more lighting to encourage footfall.

A new bold red border will further highlight this entrance and more greenery has been added to the St Ann’s side of the plan.

Road safety concerns have meant that vehicle access from Nottingham Street to Norfolk Street would be closed.

The alterations have been made as a result of a public consultation during which Tescos proposals had been “very well received by the people in Rotherham,” according to corporate affairs manager Matthew Magee.

A planning decision is expected on May 17.
