Revamped Rotherham Guides HQ ready for opening

A POPULAR base for Girl Guides across Rotherham will be reopened next week after almost £200,000 was spent doing it up.

South Yorkshire Girlguiding have realised their dream of renovating Hesley Guide House near Thorpe Hesley and are preparing for a grand reopening on Tuesday.

The transformation was completed with the help of £80,000 fund-raising, £50,000 from the National Lotteries Reaching Communities Fund and £25,000 from The Freemasons.

Hundreds of Guides can now look forward again to residential the house, which now has facilities for people with disabilities including dedicated access, wet room and adjustable beds.

Liz Burnley CBE, a former Chief Guide will reopen the house alongside The High Sheriff, Alex Coombe, and the Mayors of Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.
