Revamp for Aston centre

A GRANT has enabled a community centre to get a major revamp.

The Mason Avenue Community Centre in Aston was given £200 from borough councillor Gerald Smith’s Leadership Fund to pay for badly-needed decorating.

The centre is used five days a week by local residents to play bingo, do keep fit, participate in craft activities and socialise.

It was closed for ten days while the decorating work was carried out.

An open day coffee morning is being held on Mondayat 12.30pm to highlight the work done and attract new members.

It will be attended by Cllr Smith and Cllr Lyndsay Pitchley.

Rother Valley West Area Assembly Team supported residents to carry out risk assessments and develop health and safety posters to inform people of the work taking place.

A spokesman for the centre said: “Residents agreed the building was in need of a lick of paint to bring it up to date.

“Residents also made a decision to match fund the councillor’s funding with subscription monies which are collected from residents who participate in the activities, who do not pay into the weekly community charges.”
