Rap for 'sex joke' nurse

A NURSE made explicit jokes about anal sex, his own genitals and women with big breasts in a series of remarks to patients and colleagues at a Mexborough mental health unit.

Mahadeo Roghoo, a registered nurse specialising in learning disabilities at Mexborough’s Aspen House, has been warned about his future conduct after a disciplinary hearing called by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The panel ruled that Mr Roghoo, said to be now living in Mauritius, had a “previously unblemished career” but had acted in a way which “fell sufficiently short of the standards required of a registered nurse to be misconduct.”

He was found guilty of four charges of misconduct, which included

asking a colleague if she wanted to smell him and asking another worker how to say “watermelons” in Polish, adding that he was thinking about women with big breasts.

He also made inappropriate remarks to a patient, giving her two packets of crisps and two sandwiches and saying, “One for you and one for the baby.”

Three other charges, including one that he tickled a patient at Aspen House and another relating to sexual remarks, were found not proved.

Panel chairman Peter Harvey said the patients to whom Roghoo told a joke about his genitalia were vulnerable female patients who may have suffered sexual abuse in the past.

“The panel considered that telling such patients a sexually explicit joke was not only inappropriate but constituted misconduct,” he said.

By making remarks about pregnancy to a patient who was not pregnant but believe she was, Roghoo was “unkind and inconsiderate.”
