Pupils create brighter building site in Wombwell

DEARNE Valley youngsters have been rewarded for helping to brighten up a building site.

Pupils from High View Primary Learning Centre in Wombwell were invited by housebuilder Lovell to decorate the hoardings at the company’s Newsome Avenue development.

And the colourful artwork they created has won the kids a runner-up spot in a national competition.

The national Ivor Goodsite Hoarding competition was organised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme - spearheaded by the Scheme's Ivor Goodsite mascot - and involved children designing posters on the theme of staying safe around building sites.

School business manager Tim Marsh said: “Achieving a runner-up place in a national competition is a great achievement and the children should be very proud of themselves.  “The children enjoyed designing the posters and to have them ‘blown-up’ on the hoardings, together with the success in the competition, is something really special.

“In undertaking this activity, they have greater appreciation of the need to act responsibly and be safe around building sites.”

Lovell invited the High View pupils to the site to see their work in pride of place on the site hoardings and carried out its own presentation of goody bags to the children.

The firm is building 50 apartments for residents aged over 55 on the site of the former Highfields Primary School at Wombwell for South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA).
