Probe over claims Clifton School pupil called "terrorist" by teacher

COUNCIL chiefs have confirmed they are investigating claims a teacher called a Muslim boy a “terrorist”.

Rotherham Borough Council’s director of schools, Karen Borthwick, said the authority was acting on a complaint from the Clifton School student.

The Times reported this week that 14-year-old Aman Ghani was told “stop talking, you terrorist”.

His mum, Nazlie Shan, said “tearful and distraught” Aman claimed the unnamed teacher also told him “Asian parents don’t know how to bring up their children”.

Ms Borthwick said the authority took its safeguarding responsibilities very seriously.

She confirmed the council had received a complaint regarding an incident in a lesson at Clifton School and was working with the school to investigate the matter.

“The council has initiated the safeguarding processes involving relevant partner agencies,” Ms Borthwick added.

“It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further ahead of the conclusion of that process.”
