Prince Andrew sees Rotherham's entrepreneurs of the future

ROTHERHAM students were treated to a princely privilege today when a royal visitor paid a flying visit.

HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, arrived by helicopter to visit Herringthorpe Infant School on Tuesday morning.

The prince was greeted by six-year-old Isa Khan who shook his hand and led him in for a tour.

The visit, arranged by enterprise skills promoter Rotherham Ready, showed off a new addition to the school’s curriculum—business skills for five-year-olds.

The Duke watched Year Two pupils budget for, design and make costumes for characters in The Emperor’s New Clothes before chatting with the young entrepreneurs about the importance of business brains.

He also saw five- and six-year-olds play team building games outside before chatting with Dearne Valley College and Wingfield Business College students about their ideas for start-up companies.

The prince’s convoy then moved on to Rotherham College of Arts and Technology, where he officially opened its brand new Wentworth Building.

The £7 million facility opened its doors last September, housing classrooms, cafes and meeting rooms for use by students and local business.

It features cutting-edge, eco-friendly technologies like solar panels to heat water and power sockets within the building.
