Post giant delivers new Rotherham jobs

POSTAL firm Parcelforce this week hailed a very special delivery with the opening of a new depot in Rotherham which could create 115 jobs over the next few years.

Rotherham MP Sarah Champion this week officially opened the new Parcelforce Worldwide depot in at the Magna 34 business park in Templeborough, which is expected to handle 30,000 parcels a day.

The new 14,161 depot is part of a UK-wide expansion programme by Parcelforce Worldwide, Royal Mail Group's express parcel business.

It is seven times the size of the firm’s previous base at Parkgate Business Park.

Mark Baker, area general manager of Parcelforce Worldwide, said: “I am delighted that Sarah Champion was able to officially open Parcelforce Worldwide's new Rotherham depot.

“This depot is an essential part of our investment to grow our business.

“It will enable us to handle more parcels for the Rotherham area while ensuring we continue to provide a very high level of service to all of our customers.”

The new Rotherham operation, which has the capacity to hold up to 141 vehicle, is one of 12 new or expanded depots by Parcelforce Worldwide in the past year, including a new purpose-built parcels processing centre in Chorley.

Mr Baker said increased capacity would enable Royal Mail Group’s express parcels business to meet the growth in demand in the business-to-business, business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer parcels markets.

Ms Champion said: “I am delighted that Parcelforce Worldwide is expanding its Rotherham operation.

“I welcome the creation of local jobs for constituents which create a real boost for the local economy.
