Three charged after fast food raid

THREE men have been charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon or bladed article following an incident at a fast food restaurant.

Dale Watts (30), Carl Anthony Wynne (29) and Dean Roy Lawton (28) were arrested in the Herringthorpe area following the raid on Aldwarke Lane, Dalton, at around 3.40am on July 4.

A police spokeswoman said that three hooded men entered the restaurant wearing hoods and armed with knives and a screwdriver before raiding around £300 from the shop’s tills during the incident.

She said: “One of the staff, a 40-year-old woman from the Thrybergh area, was alone in the front of the restaurant when the suspects approached.

“She was apparently told to open the till as the trio moved behind the counter.

“Feeling threatened, the woman allowed them access to two tills and the suspects escaped with around £300.”

The member of staff was unharmed, but left shaken and upset.

The spokeswoman added: “Following a separate incident, officers attended an address at Broadway East, Herringthorpe, where two men were arrested and money, coin bags, clothing and weapons recovered.

“A third man was arrested several days later.”

Watts, of Laudsdale Road, East Herringthorpe, Wynne, of Laburnum Road, Mexborough, and Lawton, of Broadway East, East Dene, will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on August 25 and are expected to stand trial in the autumn.
