Police sign up to initiative aimed at boosting community cohesion

POLICE in South Yorkshire are supporting an initiative to bring communities closer together.

South Yorkshire Police has signed up to the #WeStandTogether campaign which was set up by the National Police Chiefs Council to promote trust, integration and cohesion in communities.

The initiative aims to bring together community groups, especially those fearful of attacks or hate campaigns.

Chief constable David Crompton said: “The force is asking communities to come together and celebrate and embrace diversity and support one another by showing solidarity and sharing the message #WeStandTogether.”

South Yorkshire police and crime commissioner Dr Alan Billings said: “I fully support the #WeStandTogether campaign against hatred and intolerance.

“If we want to live in safer and stronger communities, it’s important that we understand one another better and celebrate the good things in our different cultures.”
