Police seeking gay and transgender advisers

EFFORTS are being made to forge closer links between the police and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.

South Yorkshire Police are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures in Rotherham to join their LGB&T Independent Advisory Group.

They want to recruit individuals that understand and appreciate the issues and concerns of LGB&T communities and who are keen to improve relations with the police.

Candidates need to understand how community issues affect access to the police and be able to debate issues in a professional and considerate manner.

The group provides advice to the police on how to work with and deliver accessible and responsive services to LGB&T communities.

To date, the group has advised South Yorkshire Police on issues including recruitment, policing priorities and hate crime.

Members of the group meet four times a year and £10 is provided to each person per meeting to cover travel expenses.
