Plea for help to catch graffiti taggers

POLICE are appealing for information which will help them catch vandals who went on an overnight graffiti spree in Swinton.

Tags and obscene graffiti appeared on trees, buildings and street furniture across the town on the night January 7 — all sprayed in silver paint.

PC Fraser Garner said: “Any form of antisocial behaviour, including vandalism and criminal damage, can have an impact on how safe and secure people feel.

“This unusual amount of graffiti occurred over one night and has caused distress to the property owners.

“We are looking for the public’s help in identifying these graffiti tags to help reassure residents that Swinton is a safe place to live and work.”

Police received six reports of criminal damage to property on January 8 — more tags were discovered during the day, some of which were removed by residents.

Officers are urging anyone with information about the taggers to call them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 233 of January 9, 2013.
