Plans to revamp town multi-storey

PLANS to transform a prominent multi-storey car park into a landmark building have been submitted to planners at Rotherham Borough Council.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive handed over plans for the Rotherham Interchange parking facility, off Centenary Way, as part of a scheme which could require a £4 million spend on repairs alone.

A brown and gold mesh rendering has been designed by award-winning architectural firm Aedas and is at the heart of the proposed designs.

But SYPTE’s deputy interim director general, David Young, said that alternative options were still being considered. He said: “This option would be to refurbish the site based on the existing layout, however we remain in the early stages of this project and are also considering alternative development options.

“Submitting a planning application for the refurbishment does not commit us to this work, but helps us with planning and costing this currently unfunded scheme.

“We will continue to work with Rotherham Council to find the right solution which achieves the best for this key site in the town centre.”
