Phoenix auditioning for Sondheim fairytale show

WOULD-BE stage stars are being invited to audition for parts in Phoenix Operatic Society’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods.

The show will be staged at Rotherham’s Civic Theatre in March next year, but the society is holding its first rehearsal for new and existing members over 14 at Brinsworth West Community Centre, Brinsford Road. Rotherham, on Wednesday, when details of the society’s open auditions will be announced.

Auditions for the Under-14s section will be announced after the first rehearsal.

The production will be led by Phoenix’s production team of  muscial director Pete Lane, choreographer Rebecca Hill  and director Neil Myers.

The show is a musical, based on a book by James Lapine, which intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairytales, including

ittle Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Cinderella tied together by a more original story involving a Baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family of their own.
