Peter braves Mastermind chair

A ROTHERHAM history lecturer is top of the swots after winning through to the semi-finals of one of TV’s toughest quizzes.

Peter Reilly, who works at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology, won his heat in Mastermind by asking questions on the history of the Grand National from 1960 to date.

In his semi-final, he answered questions about 90s TV series Our Friends in the North.

He is sworn to secrecy about the outcome of the competition, but the final will be broadcast around the end of March or beginning of April.

“I went into my Mastermind heat pretty well prepared on my specialist subject, but for the general knowledge round it was virtually impossible to revise as there were a million questions they could ask,” said Peter.

“Accordingly, I was hopeful rather than confident of winning, and only wished not to disgrace myself.

Naturally I was elated to have won. The highlight for me was enjoying the experience together with my wife Debbie who was in the audience and incidentally getting far more stressed than me!

“It was nice to have a rare night away without the boys who were too young to attend, but they are very proud of their dad nonetheless!”
