Stadium flood plans passed

FLOOD defence plans outside New York Stadium have been approved by Rotherham Borough Council.

More than 2,700 cubic metres of material will form a bank next to the River Don.

The 228-metre long embankment will protect the Millers’ home from a one-in-100 year flood event.

The Trans Pennine Trail will run south of the embankment, measuring two metres wide with a Tarmac surface.

A council spokesman said: “While the proposal does not take the opportunity to provide the optimum location or width for the trail, it is considered that the proposal significantly improves this section.”

Work is expected to begin in the autumn.
